WIP Guidelines – A Critical Tool for FlowDescriptionSetting and adhering to Work in Progress (WIP) Limits is a proven technique for ensuring quality and achieving project dates. At the same time, setting and adhering to WIP Limits is a challenge that many teams find difficult. Teams often focus on the effect on cycle time, but in reality there are many other hidden costs of too much WIP. Things like lower quality, costly context switching, building on top of large amounts of untested code, hidden flow inefficiencies and process flaws are a few of these hidden costs. This session will review the challenges teams face related to WIP limits. WIP guidelines will be discussed and clarified. Suggestions on how to establish WIP Limits, and when/how to change limits will be offered. We’ll explore how the costs affect individuals, teams and the program. Finally, we’ll review some key metrics used to track WIP and help teams improve their flow efficiency.- An Agile Haiku -New ideas wash over…See More
