6:30 - 7:45 pm: In this Parkway 100 Community Conversation, learn how the steps became famous with Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown, ROCKY Statue sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg, Greater Philadelphia Film Office Executive Director Sharon Pinkenson, and “Rocky Stories” author Michael Vitez. Free.
A movie screening follows in Sister Cities Park of "Before Hollywood: Philadelphia and the Birth of the Movies," by History Making Productions.
8:15 pm: Intro by Carrie Rickey, the film's producer, and director Andrew Ferrett
8:30 - 9:30 pm Movie Screening: The film tells the story of the city as the cradle of motion pictures and the place where movies literally and metaphorically took their first steps. As the nation's manufacturing capital in the 19th century, Philadelphia was the crossroads where artists, engineers and amateur inventors realized the dream of transforming still images into those that moved. Free.
For the screening: Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Wine from Chaddsford Winery, along with craft beer and movie snacks, will be available for sale.
