TechGirlz is the charity that AgilePhilly supports to encourage middle school girls ages 11-14 to go into science, IT and engineering careers.  It is one of nine finalists for a $200,000 grant from the Philadelphia Foundation’s Key to Community Grants Program

You can help by voting at www.philafound.org/vote from midnight July 8, 2019 to midnight on July 26, 2019 with CRUSH the CULTURAL BIAS DIVIDE

Residents of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Delaware are eligible to vote. The top prize goes to the organization that gets the most votes.

TechGirlz.org is working on a pilot program with the National PTA to educate even more girls in the coming academic year with free after-school courses. In the 2017-2018 school year alone, 2,134 girls in the Philadelphia region went to 144 workshops.

In software and beyond, the skills encouraged include video game designers, graphic designers, QA testers, data scientists, database admins, cybersecurity experts, business analysts, network admins, project managers, social media managers, and front end developers.

Also note that 2019 will be the first year in which women become a majority of the college-educated labor force. As of the first quarter of 2019, 29.5 million women in the labor force had at least a bachelor’s degree, effectively matching the number of college-educated men in the workforce (29.3 million), according to the Pew Research Center is when college educated women will equal men in the workforce.
