Event Description

September 6 is the 260th birthday of Marquis de Lafayette.

( He was important to the American Revolution)

Born September 6, 1857

and arrived in the US on June 13,1777

and in 1957, got a statue in Philly.

This year, his statue is turning 70 years old.

One interesting fact about Layafette (besides having his own holiday in the mid- 20th century ) is that the first Joint Session of Congress was to hear him speak. ( citation needed )

Getting Ready

We all have to get ready, because soon is the 195th anniversary ( Sept 28, 2018) of the Parade in Philadelphia for Lafayette.  So this lets us get started for the 200th anniversary with this "trial run"  . . .  ( Being Agile says we know how to test and that we test everything.)

So September 28th, 1824 was a mere 195 years ago.

And in September 2024, we have to be ready for the 200th anniversary, because Philly has to have a really really big celebration.  And all the other boroughs at the time - Mt Airy, West Chester, Wilmington . . .

Here is an excellent writeup that lists where in the Philadelphia area he visited.

( Where in West Chester is there a historical marker to Lafayette and a monument with 5 Civil War Medal of Honor Recipients ? Marshal Square Park )
