Event Description

Influence Without Authority - Audrey Troutt
We all wind up at one time or another in a position where we have lots of ideas for improvement and zero authority to change things. I am in one such [such a] position currently, on a small team in a friendly but complex organization. I have lots of ideas for improving our development process and I think they would benefit everyone, but I can only make suggestions. For six months I have been practicing some techniques to influence change in my organization that I picked up after reading Influence without Authority by Allan Cohen and David Bradford. I would like to introduce these techniques and talk about my experience so far. While I haven't been successful at introducing most of my ideas, my team and my organization have adopted a few new practices in the last six months and we have done so in a way that felt like all sides saw the value and naturally agree to participate. I tried a lot of things that didn't work along the way and I welcome the opportunity to hear from the Agile Philly community about your challenges and successes and what techniques you use when trying to influence change.

The slides didn't convert very well on scribd, so if anyone wants a cleaner copy or has a better place to put them let me know!

I uploaded my slides here http://www.scribd.com/doc/23552403 for anyone who is interested. Thanks for the great conversation!

I am getting a gorillapod for my iPhone tonight. I hope I can get the video of most of it. It will be my first try. Audio can always be a good backup if we provide the slides

I have a Mino Flip Camera (the one at Philly Emerging Tech was owned by Mike Vizdos) but I have found that the audio in the tiny mike just does not cut it, not even from the front row. I'll charge it up and bring it, but 1) the audio will probably be crummy 2) it only captures 60 minutes of video. Our meetings go for 90 minutes, so which side do we clip off?

I don't have the flip camera. I might be able to use my laptop with it's inbuilt camera or use the audio on its own. Does anyone have the flip camera we could borrow?

Can we use the Flip camera we used for the Philly Emerging Tech conference?

If not, I think my iPhone could hold 1 hour of video.

If not, we can always get the audio with:
- Creating a podcast with garage band
- The voice memo feature on the iPhone (I am testing how much I can record on it now...;-)

Sebastian, Do you have a recording camera? Or maybe anyone else have one?

Please, someone record this so I can listen to it! I'll provide you the place to upload the raw footage.
