Event Description

September 22, 1919

The Philadelphia War History Committee was
appointed September 22, 1919, led by the Honorable Thomas
B. Smith, then Mayor of Philadelphia

The image used is Philadelphia's memorial to the Flyers of WWI and WWII that sits near the front of the Franklin Institute on the Ben Franklin Parkway.  It was erected long after other WWI memorials, but with its gold exterior, it is one of the most interesting.

Their work was to record the work of Philadelphia in the Great War To End All Wars - published in 1922
