Sheree Revilla will show us how Six Sigma practices can be applied to software. Six Sigma has revolutionized quality in the manufacturing arena, and it earns its practioners Green Belts and Black Belts.
After an introduction to Six Sigma, we will see some applications of Six Sigma in IT areas.
We will also see how Six Sigma converges with CMMI. ( "CMMI - Part 2" is the topic of the AgilePhilly - SPIN meeting on May 8th.)
There will be lots of samples of how these methodologies have changed the practice of building critical financial software.
And at the end of the night, when you are asked how the drive to the meeting was, you can answer “I estimated between 45min-1hr, so given the "variability" of the travel "cycle time", this showed a process not "in Control", hence my extra lead time was necessary in the event of accidents or "special causes". But I can see if this is just an outlier data point in our collection.”
