Oscar Wilde is born
October 16 1854 making him 165 years old
Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde (16 October 1854 – 30 November 1900) was an Irish poet and playwright.
Always witty and controversial - without him, American and English Theater would be quite boring.
One can Earnestly say that he set the standard for Drawing Room dramas.
He also is often quoted for things like:
A cynic is a person who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Every great man has his disciples, and it is always Judas who writes the biography.
It is often said that force is no argument. That however, entirely depends on what one wants to prove.
When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life. Now that I am old, I know that it is.
Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.
Update: I stumbled upon an article on the Blog for Laurel Hill Cemetery that tells how the Pitcture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde was more scandalous than we know it today.
Also, Oscar Wilde visited Philadelphia twice in his speaking tour in 1882 https://www.jstor.org/stable/3848972?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents
