Groundhog Day celebrates that special Pennsylvania weather prognosticator and Seer of all Seers on his/her special day.
Besides being celebrated in a teeny, tiny town in central Pennsylvania, it is celebrated fondly by me for being the birthday of my mother born on 2/2/22
The ground zero of celebrations and news is Punxsutawney Pennsylvania -AND- Woodstock Illinois.
Woodstock was the filming location of the movie Groundhog Day, and the filming locations are now included in tours of this northern Illinois town.
In the movie Groundhog Day, I think that the main character Bill Murray is not repeating the same day over and over, it is the townspeople who are. The main character is free every day to pursue Enriching and Selfless acts.
The characters for Groundhog Day are Punxsutawney Phil and also Woodstock Willie. They are not to be confused with the mascot of Herrs Potato Chips here in Chester County, the chipmunk Chipper.
