SUMMARY:Multisensory Kanban
DESCRIPTION:Get a sneak-preview of Ravindar's and André's Lean Softwa
re and Systems Conference 2011 session:\nSee, hear, feel, taste and sm
ell your way to better system throughput with a hybrid of XP-style kan
ban story boards, Pomodoro-like audible timers, group scrums, and team
meals/snacks.\nWhile big visible charts are useful, we prefer to leve
rage the human mind’s capacity for multi-threaded perception by usin
g different channels for different kinds of signals. For example, stop
events are audible (to catch people’s attention), start events are
visual (so people “in the zone” don’t get interrupted), and tran
sitions are kinetic or post-food time (to pull our focus away from our
last task). Rather than being focused entirely on cycle time, we moni
tor team energy and creativity levels to give us early warning signs o
f systemic problems. While these practices were developed in the field
through team discussions and retrospectives, they are definitely insp
ired by the work of Weinberg, Cirillo, DeMarco & Lister, Block, Derby/
Larsen, Beck, and the Poppendiecks.\n\n\nFor more information visit ht
