 ufactured. However, it eventually made him the only U.S. president to 
 hold a patent.\r\n\r\nTrivia: Lincoln's Secretary, John G Nicolay, a n
 ewspaperman,  owned 5 patents: 4 for improvements to printing presses
  and one for an improved chair for camping.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThere i
 s a replica of Lincoln's scale model at the Smithsonian Institution in
  Washington, D.C. The purpose was to raise boats over shoals and sand
